Diarrhea after eating occurs due to a number of factors. The factors involved could either be due to your body or to the food that you just ate. There are also different time intervals when diarrhea after eating occurs. Whatever cause or whenever it occurs, the important thing is that you find solutions to this current problem. Diarrhea is experienced by everyone in their life and nobody loves to have them. And most of time diarrhea comes in at the wrong place at the wrong time. Below is a list of some remedies and treatments that could help stop diarrhea.
1. Add some probiotics in your diet. Probiotics could be found in different kinds of food such as yogurt, cheese, kimchi, pickles, and more. Probiotics are good bacteria that help in the digestion of food that is taken in by the body. Without them, proper digestion does not occur. This situation would lead to diarrhea after eating.
2. Eat some bananas. The suggestions from number 2 to 4 are collectively known as the “BRAT” diet. When you have diarrhea, your stool is watery because the process of water absorption is not completed. Along with the watery stool are the electrolytes. Electrolytes are needed for the proper functioning of the body. An example of an electrolyte is Potassium. When you lack potassium in your system, your muscles will feel weak. The potassium is used by all of the muscles in the body including the heart. Bananas are rich in Potassium and they will help recover your strength.
3. Add some rice to your diet. Rice could be easily digested by your body. When you just had diarrhea, eating foods that are not easily digested will just worsen your condition. Rice is a source of carbohydrate that is easily digested by the body.
4. Eat apples and don’t drink apple juice. The whole apple fruit contains pectin that helps bind the stool together. This will help in preventing watery stools when you defecate. The apple juice on the other hand could worsen your condition. Fruit juices often contain sugars like sorbitol that are used to treat constipation rather than diarrhea.
5. Eat toast for breakfast. Toast is a source of carbohydrate that could be easily digested by your tummy. When you eat toast or crackers, be sure not to put butters or jam in them. You need to feed yourself with foods that are simple. These foods would not require different enzymes to be digested. The simpler, the better.
6. Drink plenty of water or fluids. If you can’t just stop the diarrhea, you should do something about its effects. Dehydration is one of the adverse effects of having diarrhea. If you do not hydrate yourself properly, you could be confined in the hospital where they have to hydrate you through an IV catheter.
7. Avoid consuming milk products. When you have diarrhea, the enzymes in your digestive tract may also lessen. Dairy products need these enzymes to be digested. If your digestive tract does not contain enough digestive enzymes, your body will try to eliminate the milk products the fastest way it can. As a result, you would worsen your diarrhea after eating milk products.
8. Rest well and have some sleep. Your body has gone through a lot when you are currently having diarrhea. You become tired and stressed because you always need to go to the bathroom. You may even feel that you are getting weak. This is due to dehydration. Providing your body with the rest it needs will help your body recover more quickly.
9. Don’t eat a lot. The food you eat should all be digested by your body. When it fails to do this, diarrhea can occur. This is your body’s way of eliminating the excess food that you ate. If you just suffered from diarrhea, you should ease up on what you eat. Start with liquid foods then gradually to solid foods but don’t eat too much because it can once again upset your stomach.
10. Choose your fibers. There are two types of fibers found in food. The soluble fibers and the insoluble fibers. You should choose to eat food that contains soluble fibers. As the name implies, you would be able to digest it and it would also help in building your stool. It will bind the stool to prevent watery stool that could cause dehydration.
Eat Jell-O. Jell-O is a solid food that is soft and could be easily digested. It can also provide the sugar that your body needs. The Jell-O is taken in to prevent your stomach from being shocked with solid foods. When you have diarrhea, it is advisable for you to start taking in liquids gradually into solids. The Jell-O helps out in this transition.
