What is Imigran?

Imigran is a drug used for the treatment of migrains. This is due to it containing sumatriptan succinate as an active component. It is considered a triptan, which is a class of medication that alleviate pain by reversing the process in the brain that causes migraines. When the problem is fixed at the root, the pain lessens.

What is the difference between Imigran and Sumatripan Generic?

The two drugs are similar pathologically. The brand name drug Imigran has sumatripan succinate as an active component and was originally produced by GlaxoSmithKline. It was the first migraine treatment to use sumatripan succinate as an active component. Imigran is marketed worldwide and is especially popular across Europe. However, sumatripan succinate is also available as a generic drug, Sumatripan Generic, which is popular due to its lower cost.

How Does Imigran Work?

By rousing serotonin receptors in the brain, Imigran is able to contract the blood vessels in the brain. Since migrains are believed to primarily be caused by the widening of said vessels, this reverses the process that causes the pain and thus eradicates it.

When Should I Take Imigran?

Triptan medications are generally used when analgesics fail and the migraines do not occur more often than ten times a month. There are several types of triptans and, since every person is unique, different ones work better for different people. Imigran works best when the migraine has only begun causing pain but it only works to treat migraines and should not be taken regularly as a preventative.

How Do I Take Imigran?

There is no requirement to eat prior to taking Imigran and it works at any time of the day. One dose is recommended when you feel a migraine coming on but a second dose can be taken after a minimum of two hours if the first dose didn’t entirely work. If the first dosage didn’t work at all, however, repeatedly taking Imigran is not advisable.
