What Is Imigran Nasal Spray?
Imigran Nasal Spray is a prescription drug used to treat migraines. It is considered a triptan, which is a medical class of drug that does not alleviate pain but instead reverses the cause of the pain in the first place. When the processes in the brain causing the pain are reversed by the spray, the cause of the migraine is solved and therefore the symptoms decrease.
How does Imigran Nasal Spray Work?
It functions by energizing the serotonin in the brain, which in turn causes the blood vessels in the brain to contract. Since many migraines are caused by blood vessels in the brain becoming enlarged, this reverses the cause of the migraine and stops the pain.
Like any drug, there are side effects associated with Imigran Nasal Spray. These include pain and tightness in the chest, throat and body; heaviness; tingling; numbness; and feeling hot or cold. These side effects vary in severity but are short-lived. More uncommon side-effects include dry mouth, nausea and drowsiness. These are usually mild however and do not require intervention.
