What is Zolmitriptan?
Zolmitripan is a migraine treatment drug. Belonging to a class of medication known as triptans, Zolmitripan is not a pain reliever. Instead, it reverses the processes in the brain that are believed to be the source of migraines. This in turn lessens the symptoms but also solves the core problem causing them.
How Does Zolmitriptan Work?
By energising the serotonin in the brain, it constricts the blood vessels there. This reverses the general cause of migraines, which is the widening of such vessels.
There are potential side effects to taking Zolmitripan as every patient is different. These include pain; tightness in the chest, throat and other body parts; heaviness; tingling; feeling hot or cold; and various other strange feelings. Some patients have reported these symptoms to be severe but they do not pose long term risks. In certain cases, patients have reported feeling nauseous, dry mouthed and drowsy but these effects are also short-lived.
