What is Zomig?
Zomig is a drug used for treating migraines. It is considered to be a triptan, which is a class of medication. Although they are used to alleviate pain, they are not pain relievers but in fact work to reverse the cause of the migraine in the brain instead. Instead of simply masking the symptoms of a migraine, Zomig instead eliminates the cause.
How does Zomig Work?
Serotinin are receptors that are present in the brain and by stimulating the these, Zoimig causes the blood vessels to contract. The widening of these blood vessels is a common reason for migraines and, hence, contracting them eliminates the source problem.
As with any drugs, there are possible side effects to taking Zomig. The most common side effects that have been reported are pain and pressure in the throat, chest, and body. Some patients have reported feeling tingling sensations, numbness or feeling hot and cold while others have reported experiencing dry mouth, nausea and drowsiness. These side effects vary in severity but are not long term.
